Year 8 Faraday Challenge 2010
On Friday 15th January 2010 Miss Barley & Mr Wilson took six Y8 pupils from Sydney Smith School to participate in a Faraday Challenge event at Trinity House School.
Six teams took part from Trinity House School (2 teams), Cottingham High School, Winifred Holtby & Technology College, Sir Henry Cooper School & Sydney Smith School.
The challenge was to design & make an object to move 1ltr of water from one tray to another tray 300mm high in 60 seconds.
The students from Sydney Smith School managed to move 1.5 litres of water in 1 minute.
The effectiveness of their solution, quality of their presentation, content of the video, STEM test papers & ability to work as a team secured them second place overall.
The team from Sydney Smith School included Ben Hunter (8TOA), Ben Jennings (8BRV), Chloe Wilkinson (8LEA), Georgina Bishop (8PIN), Madeleine Brown (8LEA) & Lewis Spencer (8APP).
Well done to the pupils for being outstanding ambassadors for the school & achieving second place.
